Today's a great day to:

1) Review your backup logs.
2) Perform a recovery drill on a development server.
3) Validate the backed up data by running checksums, comparing tables or file sizes, etc.

we do this every 2 months for each client. It feels tedious some times, but when we catch something (whoa, that backup wasn't running? or, we backed up the db but not the binlogs?) it feels good to catch it on our own, instead of in the middle of a crisis, when it's too late.
